LDS.org New Website

Friday, February 9th, 2007

Last week I was preparing for family home evening on my monthly host/topic night, the topic being our goals, finances, calendar, etc.; basically our monthly planning meeting and while preparing the nights lesson I visited LDS.org to find a conference talk to go along with my lesson. Once there I found that the site had been totally redesigned and was now much more user friendly and attractive…to my personal likes. I thought the old site was a little difficult to navigate and I also didn’t like how when you were viewing an article the page would split into frames showing the outline on top and the article on bottom. The made it very difficult to navigate back to the list of search results shown to you.

One thing I especially like about the new site is the navigation located toward the bottom left of the homepage. Now you can search the site based on needs such as: Prepare a Lesson, Prepare a Talk, etc. This shows that the LDS Church has taken steps to cater the official church site to church member needs.

I clicked on the Prepare a Talk link and was able to then simply and quickly locate a conference talk dealing with preparing your finances…and more importantly was able to have a well prepared lesson for family home evening so I didn’t upset my wife.

If you haven’t visited the new LDS.org I suggest you do so soon.

Steal the Bacon~~~

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

As a boy growing up in the church and the scouting program I played a lot of steal the bacon. However, last night I played it for the first time as a scout leader. Myself, three other leaders, and about 10 scouts played steal the bacon with chalk board erasers in the nursery room at our local LDS church building. This was of course after we had worked on the camping merit badge.

Even as an adult it was a lot of fun. We had an eraser at each end of the room. We placed coats over every window and door, and then would hit the lights so it was dark and while on our hands and knees would charges head forward until we either got tackled, or found the eraser. Once the eraser was found it was full speed back to our home wall to bang the eraser on the wall signifying my teams victory. My hands and knees are sore today, but I’m glad to say my team won with a score of 12-7…WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!

Joseph Smith Ring

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Joseph Smith rings are one of the most memorable and beloved LDS themed products we offer on our site. The ring it self comes in silver, yellow gold, and white gold for both male and female.

One thing that many people actually don’t know is that the Joseph Smith ring is an exact replica of the actually ring Joseph wore during the King Follett Discourse to illustrate the eternal nature of man. He was also wearing this ring the day of his martyrdom, June 27th 1844. The oblong circle on the wide face signifies eternity as the circle never ends. On the underside of the face, Joseph Smith’s signature is engraven into the metal.

Because of the meaning of the ring (that of eternity), many couples find Joseph Smith rings to be a wonderful wedding rings and often comment on how special they are to them as they remind them of their special day in the temple of God.
