Involving Your Kids In Your Church Callings
Tuesday, June 17th, 2008I had a thought today about the importance of getting your kids involved in your church callings (at least the best you can). I was thinking about this as my wife asked our 5 year old if he wanted to go to a swim party that the cub scouts are having (she is a den mother). She has also had him go to other various functions including the pine wood derby to get him excited about scouting. It has worked, I think he is really going to enjoy the time when he can get involved in scouting. I can’t say I am looking forward to campouts again (I am not the outdoorsy type) but it will be fun to build those memories with my boy!
I was thinking it serves another purpose too, as your kids see you serve the Lord, they will want to as well. It is a huge responsibility to teach service and this is one of the easiest ways to do so.
I got my Eagle when I was 14 years old, and can’t remember everything that went on in scouts, or cub scouts for that matter, but I do remember how much fun I had and all the work that the den mothers, and leaders I had put into their calling. That makes me want to encourage my wife more about her calling, and serve better myself!
I really think as your kids see you put everything into your calling, and give service, they will want to do the same in life and in future church callings they may have. Has anyone ever had something like this happen in their life they can share with us, about how having a calling was a teaching tool for you kids? I would love to hear the stories here!
